In our Pre-K DMV program, we blend the essential elements of early childhood education with the unique flavors of our local community. Our curriculum is carefully crafted to prepare children for their academic journey ahead, while also celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) area. From interactive lessons on traffic safety to fun field trips exploring local landmarks, every aspect of our program is tailored to ignite curiosity and inspire learning.

MEET THE TEACHER!
Markita Kelly is owner and lead teacher of A Place to Grow Childcare. Markita started A Place to Grow Childcare in the city of Waldorf, MD in order to meet the needs of the growing community and to fulfill her goal of educating children.
She has been a member of the Charles County community since 2018. Markita was born in Washington, DC and graduated in 2014 from UMGC with a Bachelors of Arts degree in English with a minor in Human Resources. She has worked in education since 2009, educating both elementary aged and pre-k early learners. Prior to her career in education, she worked in the private sector in human resources, recruiting, marketing, sales, telecommunications and customer service. Markita worked in charter schools in Washington, DC providing quality education until 2022 when she decided to open an early childhood program in her home. She has extensive educational experience, preparation and practical knowledge in early childhood through the completion of the KIPP DC Capital Teacher Residency program and working as a lead teacher and mentor teacher with Apple Tree Public Charter schools. She has worked as an instructional assistant, resident teacher, lead teacher, mentor and now a childcare owner. To further support the Charles County community Markita coaches baseball with the Charles County Youth League (CCYL) and works on the Charles County Department of Social Services (CCDSS) Advisory Board, currently as the Board Chair.
In addition to the many children Markita has been blessed to work with, she has two children of her own, ages 7 and 3. She understands the importance that early childhood education has on future success in school and in life. She is excited to be able to offer a highly individualized play-based preschool program in the Waldorf, MD community and is looking forward to making a positive impact on children enrolled in A Place to Grow Childcare.
